For seven times in a row, Manny Pacquiao, one of the said all-time boxing greats, reigned in the ring once again. This time, Pacquiao proved his dominion in the boxing arena to the Puerto Rican boxing star, Miguel Cotto on the 12th round of the fight via TKO.

Cotto said at the end of the fight that Pacquiao is one of the best fighters and the best boxers that he ever fought. His trainer, Joe Santiago, also said that the Filipino boxer was stronger than they expected. Statements that further emphasize the greatness of Pacquiao inside the boxing ring.

Currently, Pacquiao is claimed to make a history in the world of boxing by winning seven titles in a row. These are the flyweight, junior featherweight, featherweight, junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight and just recently, welterweight.

Pacquiao, known for his great agility and strength, is really amazing the people—not just in the Philippines but also in other parts of the world. His fight against Cotto only displayed that his speed and power weigh too much for Cotto to bear, the same fate that was faced by other opponents of Pacquiao on his previous boxing fights.

Because of the unfailing dominion that is being showed by Pacquiao while inside the boxing ring, his fans can hardly wait to know the next move for the king of boxing. This time, it is yet uncertain whether the great Filipino boxer will face Mayweather on his next fight. But whoever great boxer he is about to face next, it is for sure that many people from different parts of the world will feel excited to see how the greatest fighter in this era will perform his next game.

The retired American basketball player, coach, author, and actor, Kareen Abdul-Jabbar, is presently being treated for a rare form of leukemia. The former NBA player famous for his “skyhook” was diagnosed last December with chronic myeloid leukemia according to the report published by the Associated Press.

Currently, Abdul-Jabbar is serving as a paid spokesman for the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis, the maker of a drug that treats the illness. The 62-year-old man said he wants to spread the word about the disease to provide awareness to people and help save lives.

Currently, Abdul-Jabar remained working as a special assistant with the Lakers. He said he does not need to lessen his level of activity of coaching. To make his statement more direct, he is saying that he does not need to allow his illness to consume him and ruin his commitments. He can still live a normal life and pursue a normal routine.

The positive attitude showed by Abdul-Jabar to his ailment is certainly encouraging. Instead of calling for a time-out or quitting on the game and lurk himself in self-pity and hopelessness, the NBA prided sportsman is bravely facing his opponent with all his might knowing that victory is possible to be acquired even during the last few minutes of the game.

Surely, battling poor health or adverse illness is one of the most difficult fights to face. But having the courage to fight will make a great difference—not just to the life of the afflicted person but also to the people that eye on him.

Anyway, what truly matters in the end is not whether a person wins or loses; what matter is how he fought for a good fight. True, this thought is implied by one of the popular quotes, but people should learn to take it into their heart.

History’s longest Australian Open match ever was won by Rafael Nadal over Spain’s Fernando Verdasco. Rafeal Nadal beat Verdasco 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (1), 6-4 on Friday. Nadal will be encountering grand slam veteran Roger Federer when they meet on Sunday for the finals.

Preventing Federer from acing a 14th Grand Slam record is definitely a topnotch priority for Nadal.

The semi-finals between Nadal and Verdasco lasted for 5 hours and 14 minutes. This is a new jotted record, which broke the previous longest match, 5 hours and 11 minutes between Boris Becker and Omar Camporese of Italy in 1991.

Verdasco, who outclassed Andy Murray in the foruth round, gave a good fight. Though managing to settle for a good one, Verdasco left some unforced errors that in return gave Nadal an open hit for the victory.

Meanwhile, Williams sisters proved their totalreign in the Open by winning the women doubles Friday. THis is the sisters’ third title and eight Grand Slam as a combination. Venus and Serena Williams defeated Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Japan’s Ai Sugiyama 6-3, 6-3. Venus gave the team a hard fight since most of the tough offensives came from her.

“I just wouldn’t want to face them too much. They are ferocious,” Serena said of her sister’s shots.

“She’s covering the whole net. At one point today, I literally stood back and she took care of everything.”

Portugal international Rolando aided Manchester in winning three relevant titles in 2008. With him, United got the Premier Leafue, Champions League and World Club championships titles.

He was also meritted as the European Player of the Year and was also voted number one by FIFA’s worldwide player’s union FIFPro.

Among his top contenders were 2007 winner Kaka, of AC Milan, Spain Euro 2008 top scorer Fernando Torres of Liverpool and Barcelona stars Xavi and Lionel Messi.

“It’s another overwhelming moment in my career,” said Ronaldo. “It’s a tremendously emotional moment and a dream come true. I’d like to dedicate this to my family.”

“It’s also true that the manager always has an important role to play. It was a great season for me and for my club, and the coach was important for me because I learned a lot for him,” as Rolando paid tribute to club manager Alex Ferguson.

“His experience over so many years is of paramount importance — it’s a privilege to have such a great club manager.”

“This is the climax of a fantastic era for me. I’m happy and proud about what has been done by my team and what we have won.

“I am lucky to to be part of the history of a club like Manchester United.”
